The first time I went for a hike was with my father, being a kid at the time I thought I would be bored stiff. I wanted to hang out with friends and play baseball instead. I thought nothing could be more boring than just walking through the woods with my dad. Actually I was wrong and that first hike turned into a lifelong passion. Nowadays I encourage people to go hiking at every opportunity and I get the same comments from friends…”it’s boring” or “who wants to just walk”. The truth is hiking doesn’t have to be boring and here are 5 reasons you’re going to love hiking.
Make it Easy
You don’t start your first hike by trekking the entirety of the Appalachian Trail, try that and I promise you will never hike again. You may aspire to give it a try one of these days but not the first day. You can start off easy by throwing on a pair of walking shoes and heading to a nearby park. Work your way up to a more challenging hike go at your own pace.
It’s Good For You
Shhhh…don’t tell anyone but hiking is good exercise. Exercise brings with it some great health benefits. Head out for a hike for a couple of hours and you can feel life’s stress melting away. Hiking can help you manage stress along with the perks of better sleep, lower blood pressure and weight loss. Plenty of good reasons to head out on a hike. Here are the health benefits of hiking outlined for you.
Hiking Can Be Done By Anyone
The cost of a gym membership can be expensive especially if you’re not in the position to afford it. Hiking doesn’t require any high end gear you can get started with a good pair of shoes. You can pick a nearby destination and just walk.
Bring a Friend
Lots of people goes on hikes for the quiet and solitude, somedays I am one of those people but sometimes I like the company. You can bring a friend with you and you can’t hold each other accountable to make sure you get the hike in. You probably already have friends that like hiking as much as you do. You can also try out one of the hiking clubs, you can probably find one on Meetup.com.
Enjoy Some New Scenery
One of the perks of hiking is seeing scenery that you don’t get to appreciate at any other time. You can take in the beauty of the trees, the color of the leaves and the refreshing beauty. This is the time you can relax your mind and just enjoy. This is when you appreciate hiking the most.
